    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Accounting Rotational Graduate will be part or a program program designed to specifically prepare future generations of business leaders within the accounting and finance organization. Participants gain invaluable on the job experiences and technical training through rotations across Cost Accounting, Financial Planning, and Corporate Accounting.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:


    General Accounting – Reporting to the Controller

    • Participate in the financial closing process
    • Prepare analysis to support adjusting journal entries
    • Prepare and review account reconciliations
    • Manage the fixed asset registers & depreciation calculations
    • Count inventory and fixed assets on a test basis
    • Participate in internal audit fieldwork
    • Prepare schedules for internal audit
    • Prepare group reports
    • Develop complete understanding of the system of internal controls
    • Understand and use the company ERP system (Syteline)
    • Understand and use the company management reporting platform (Cognos)
    • Understand and use the group reporting platform (Cognos Controller)
    • Participate in Kaizen events targeted at company Lean initiatives
    • Assist with implementation/upgrade of SL8.0 activities including pilot testing
    • Automate reports through Syteline and Cognos to drive efficiency
    • Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting or Controller


    Financial Planning Analysis & Cost – Reporting to FPA Manager/Cost Accounting Supervisor

    • Prepare actual vs. budget analysis and discuss with department managers
    • Assist with quarterly forecast and annual budget
    • Prepare Capital Spending Request analysis and post-investment appraisals
    • Prepare cost roll analysis
    • Participate in Kaizen events targeted at company Lean initiatives
    • Assist with planning and execution of the annual physical count
    • Develop complete understanding of the company standard cost system
    • Prepare variety of variance analysis to support the manufacturing operations
    • Prepare variety of order book analysis
    • Prepare variety of sales gross margin analysis


    Service Center & Canada Operations – Reporting to Controller

    • Prepare analysis and commentary of monthly results for service and international operations
    • Develop complete understanding of the company labor reporting system (Kronos)
    • Participate in the implementation of Kronos
    • Assist with quarterly forecast and annual budget preparation to support service & international operations
    • Automate reports through Cognos & Syteline to drive efficiency
    • Prepare / implement variety of variance analysis to support service & international operations
    • Visit/travel to service center locations
    • Develop complete understanding of the US service business cost and revenue drivers
    • Develop complete understanding of the Canadian location cost and revenue drivers
    • Assist branch and division managers with financial decision support (capex, hiring, expansion)
    • Assist branch operations with process improvements in transactional areas including purchases, payroll, billing, inventory and administration

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


    Master's degree with no related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



    Must be willing to travel to other Weir locations to work on various Accounting and Finance projects.



    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


    Computer Skills:

    The incumbent should have knowledge of the following: Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Power Point


    Physical Demands:

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
