Business Need / Purpose of Role

Service Technician Ill will assist in the installation, removal, repairs and maintenance of customer equipment on the well site onshore and offshore domestic and International. The Service Technician III has a deep working knowledge of wellhead and other interfacing equipment including service tools.  The Service Technician III also has a good understanding of competitor's equipment and tools including multi-bowl wellhead with the tooling required for the Installation.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Prepare JSA (Job Safety Analysis) on job site and perform all duties in a safe manner
  • Safely install, remove, repair and service customer equipment on the wellsite
  • Perform valve lubrication, valve repair, wellhead improvements with the ability to run high pressure lubricator (PBMO) to set various size back pressure valves and two way check.
  • Has the ability to run a VR lubricator under pressure
  • Maintain Weir Seaboard company vehicle, service tools and other equipment in a clean and ready to use state
  • Prepare accurate field service and rental tickets in a clean and legible way
  • Promote Weir Seaboard in field service and sales
  • Maintain a professional appearance and work attitude
  • Provide technical expertise and direction to well site supervisor and rig crew.
  • Pre-check all equipment on the well site before installation to insure all equipment is correct and all accessories are on location ready to install
  • Is receptive to and able to understand training received on related installation processes and safety procedures
  • Possesses ability to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Able to be on 24 hour call to respond to customer needs
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and written
  • Complies with all applicable, safety, health, quality and environmental regulations
  • The ability to run control line ifneeded
  • Provides proper care and maintenance of all shop tools, equipment, and work area
  • Assists with customers as needed
  • Preforms other routine duties per supervisor's instructions
  • Operates company vehicle with necessary tools and equipment and keeps company vehicle in compliance with applicable company policy and/or DOT regulations
  • Assumes responsibility to assist other branches as required
  • Capable of running all equipment exposed as Service Technician  I and II without supervision
  • Possess ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform field equipment repairs
  • The ability to complete /de-complete single and multi-string completions with or without control line
  • H2S, Rigging, Safe Gulf/Safe Land, water survival (needed for Gulf work), TWIC (needed for Gulf work), firefighting and Safe Start training
  • The ability to identify stud, nut, ring gasket size for flange end connections utilized in product installations
  • Assists engineering in problem solving, making suggestions for better installation procedures
  • Handles customer in a professional manner
  • Records critical dimensions to ensure assembly will work as designed
  • Proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Office
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications



High school diploma/ general education degree (GED) and/or at least five years’ wellhead experience with onshore or offshore installations.



Ability to read, write speak in English and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Clear, rational and logical thought processes. Capable of drawing engineering conclusions from modeling and analysis activity.


Other Skills and Abilities:

Valid driver’s license (may require CDL). Must have acceptable driving record upon completion of MVR check. Must have mechanical and hydraulic aptitude. Ability to operate high pressure torque wrenches, hammer wrench, jib cranes, overhead cranes, forklift and to do rigging work in a safe manner. Must be able to use power tools, hand tools, swing sledge hammer and use measuring devices such as micrometers, tape measure, rulers, scale and pressure gauges with chart recorder.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and inclement weather conditions.  High noise level shop environment. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel toed safety shoes and safety glasses, in all areas of the facility.  May work with chemicals and high pressure equipment.
