    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Under the direction of the Procurement Manager/ Supervisor, the Senior Buyer/Planner is responsible for on time delivery, competitive cost, improved inventory turns, and quality of all the raw materials, machined products, finished goods, and services purchased to support Manufacturing, Sales, and Customer Service in accordance with company policies and procedures

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Identify, support, and/or execute sourcing strategy and initiatives. Drive supplier on-time-delivery, quality, lead time reduction, cost reduction, and procurement process improvement for assigned categories and/ or responsibilities.
    • Manage procure-to-pay process, including procurement planners, purchase orders, invoices, lead time validation, and delivery for assigned categories. Support internal customers and build strong working relationship internally and externally.
    • Closely monitor and evaluate supplier performance. Identify supplier capacity, capability, and eliminate supply risks. Coordinate and conduct supplier periodic business reviews, negotiations, supplier assessment, and on-site audits. Work closely with supplier quality engineer to identify and implement corrective actions.
    • Manage supplier base for assigned category. Identify cost savings opportunities and execute. Track related commodity index. Generate cost model for assigned category.
    • Process RMAs (returned material authorization). Manage purchased inventory, expedite supplier shipments. Initiate and manage RFQ/ RFP and supplier selection process. Work with cross functional team to support new product introduction.
    • Recommend and implement efficiency, tools, standard practices, and procedures. Be technical involved in assigned category to execute daily activities.
    • Facilitate and lead projects assigned. Collaborate with other parts of Weir Minerals business units when necessary to support North America Weir Minerals.
    • Mentor and develop other staff within the procurement team when applicable. Promote team work and customer focused approach between different departments.
    • Some travel required.
    • Comply with all Supply Chain / Operations Department and Company policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    • Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused attitude within and between departments.
    • Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir's Duty of Care.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


    Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, or Business is required. Minimum of seven years with purchasing experience in manufacturing environment utilizing MRP is required.


    Preferred experiences include: good Casting and Machining related procurement experience, strong supply base and supplier performance management skills, ability to drive sourcing initiatives, and project management skills


    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.



    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    • Ability to travel 30%+ both domestically and internationally

    • Solid MS Excel skills and working knowledge of web-based applications.
