Business Need / Purpose of Role

Responsible for the support and execution of sourcing related tasks throughout the NPI process within the framework of the sourcing strategy.  Includes participating in supplier evaluation, providing feedback in design reviews, gathering cost estimates and initial quotes, tracking prototype, pilot, and qualification orders, as well as general support of the NPI projects.  Role is responsible for ensuring that NPI-related sourcing tasks are completed within the timelines dictated by the NPI process and also ensuring that all decisions related to sourcing are made with in the sourcing strategy framework.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Executes sourcing related NPI taskings working with the project managers, sourcing manager, engineering teams, and operations teams to ensure NPI projects are completed on time with low risk to the business.
  • Manages on-going relationships with suppliers to support/enhance new product launches. Ensures suppliers are meeting engineering, quality, and sourcing targets for new product launches.
  • Requests and analyzes quotes for components and provides feedback to sourcing, engineering, and quality for consideration.
  • Places POs for prototype and production intent tooling, test parts, PPAP parts, and any other related items. Tracks progress at vendor and relays any concerns from vendor.
  • Drives the new part and process qualification for suppliers in coordination with Supplier Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering Teams.
  • Builds cost models for both new parts and major revisions to existing components.
  • Supports sourcing analysis and selection process, performs cost analyses and make vs. buy analysis as required
  • Proactively assesses current and identifies future vendors with regard to new technology, processes, capabilities, or capacity that may be included in new or enhanced product strategies.
  • Participates in supplier audit teams in the on-site assessment of new and existing suppliers to determine compliance to requirements.
  • Participates in supplier selection, reviews and gives recommendations on contracts. Determines best cost sources of supply from global possibilities.
  • Understands pricing negotiation, payment terms, delivery terms, quality targets, consignment stocking policies.
  • Understands and effectively communicates global business trends and drivers that include technology and business footprints for his/her projects.
  • Provides input to on-going commodity cost reduction programs, and material inventory reduction efforts.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                   

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management with a  minimum of 5 -10 years’ experience in sourcing or project management in a manufacturing environment and significant understanding of new product introduction processes.


Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), APICS, Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) - Preferred

Language Skills                                             

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of executives, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills                                                   

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability                                                      

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills                                             

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the following software: database, development, Human Resource information systems, internet, spreadsheet, and word processing.


Other Qualifications                                                  

Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
