Business Need / Purpose of Role

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in commercial or industrial establishments by performing the following duties.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities


Must meet all the Duties and Responsibilities of a Maintenance Mechanic II plus the following:


  • Perform advanced CNC repairs and replacements involving ball screws, spindle motors, spindles, main spindle bearings, etc.
  • Perform CNC machine leveling and alignments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge (including troubleshooting and repair) of CNC Controls such as Fanuc, Mitsubishi or Mazatrol.
  • Alter and install programs as required to maintain efficiencies in plant equip.
  • Resolve any type of electrical or mechanical troubleshooting and repair to all plant equipment such as Mills, Lathes, Grinders, Saws, Presses, Bridge and Jib cranes, and other process controls.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to lesser qualified mechanics during advanced repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Develops and modifies procedures for advanced machine repair.
  • Recognizes and recommends preventive and predictive maintenance action items.
  • Coordinates with production personnel to resolve machining/scrap issues.
  • Understand the operation of each component of CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and saws, and be able to properly measure and size replacement parts for each.
  • Be able to identify motor full load amperages and determine proper fuse and thermal overload protection.
  • Able to read wiring diagrams and electrical schematics, identify and order electrical parts, troubleshoot for faults and make repairs.
  • Able to read hydraulic diagrams and troubleshoot and repair from the print.
  • Able to analyze and understand cross sectional drawings, identify components and cross reference part numbers.
  • Be able to identify drive and power supply faults and replace equipment as needed.
  • Understands and utilizes the CMMS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with three (5) to five (7) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate’s degree in a technical field preferred.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.



Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret schematic drawings, procedure changes, and work orders.


Computer Skills:

The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software:


Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
