Business Need / Purpose of Role

The Distribution Improvement Specialist is responsible for working with cross functional team including: Distribution, Supply Chain, Value Streams, and Service Centers to improve process and performance, using continuous improvement methodologies.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

 

  • Develop, implement, and bench mark process improvements in all functions of the distribution center.

 

  • Work with the service centers to help improve processes within, and to/from the distribution centers and or value streams.

 

  • Work with the value streams to help improve processes within, and to/from the distribution centers and or value streams.

 

  • Lead distribution center Kaizen activities, participate as need with supply chain, value stream, and service center events.

 

  • Identify meaningful metrics, track progress, and identify efficiency and quality goals

 

  • Review processes, propose efficiency improvements, and implement approved process improvements

 

  • Conduct coordination with internal and external stakeholders to apply the analysis derived data to deliver improved business procedures across a spectrum of activities

 

  • Lead and/or assist with the improvement of specific policies, SOPs, checklists, standards, systems, through leading and acting as a team member to improve or resolve current or future activities.

 

  • Work closely with the distribution management team to be a change agent for the distribution center and help drive out cost

 

  • Work with the safety and training members to ensure all processes meet or exceed requirements.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct reports.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent technical training.

Minimum of 3-5 years of distribution/logistics/supply chain operations experience

 

LANGUAGE:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, managers, clients, and employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Knowledge and experience with Distribution management software and hardware tools; MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.)

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, SPECIAL SKILLS:

Green Belt preferred or ability to obtain certification.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
