    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Evaluates, develops recommendations and implements packaging solutions which support the Operations (manufacturing & service centers) strategy prioritizing safety, quality and efficiency extending the standards through the entire value stream.  Provides technical support to various departments via packaging investigation, evaluation, and testing including specification preparation. Ensures products comply with labeling, packaging, and part preservation (including rust) requirements.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Setting up, maintaining, and improving the entire process for current and new parts to include: inbound material, inbound packaging (containers/Skids), finished good packaging, and sub-assy packaging.
    • Drive change in the ergonomics and processes in the distribution, value stream, and service centers related to material handling.
    • Manage and improve handling process off all materials > 40
    • Support the new product development team to initiate correct packaging for suppliers before released to production.
    • Ensure all new materials including finished goods, sub-assy, and inbound materials meet safety, quality, and ergonomic guidelines for movement from start to the end user.
    • Researches, develops, tests, recommends and implements new or revised packaging for components and initiates the corresponding component spec.
    • Conducts the necessary communications with all departments to originate and revise packaging records.
    • Offers technical support to resolve component/products issues.
    • Assists in the development and implementation of all labeling and scanning. This is to include using existing and new technologies.
    • Evaluates product complaints related to package integrity and identifies corrective action.
    • Works closely with Operations, Suppliers, Distribution Center and Service Centers on process improvements.
    • Represents Technical Operations during supplier audits.
    • Maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned project; assists in the scheduling of projects in a timely manner to meet the long term goals of the company
    • Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages
    • Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems
    • Evaluates and obtains approvals for design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
    • Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management as required

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply chain, or equivalent technical training.
    • Minimum of 3-5 year’s experience in manufacturing environment.
    • AutoCAD or equivalent exp
    • Project Management experience is a plus
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with various areas within cross-functional teams.
    • Flexible and adaptive in a fast paced environment.
    • Willingness to travel, as needed
    • Encourage associates to work safely and promote an empowered team atmosphere.

    Language:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.  Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills:

    The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software:
    Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Databases, ERP Processes, Data Collection/Analysis Systems

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills:

    Six Sigma Certification Recommended

     

    Physical Requirements: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
