    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Under the direction of the Director of Sales and Technical Support or the Senior Field Sales or Integrated Solutions Engineer, this position is responsible for ensuring timely and satisfactory engineering field support, to Weir Minerals North America (WMNA) Sales/Marketing and Integrated Solutions activities, in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

     

    The FSE/IS Engineering  Intern is capable of entry level of professional Engineering and applies engineering skill to solve less complex problems utilizing knowledge of company customers and markets. A basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and metallurgical process engineering is required.   The position assists and supports customer process optimization activities and related value-added opportunities as directed and required.

     

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • The following represent various responsibilities these positions may be responsible for, depending on their assigned functional areas.
    • Complete special projects as assigned
    • Process stream sampling 
    • Surphaser scanning – potential equipment locations
    • Plant process audits
    • Plant equipment and installed base validation audits
    • Customer flowsheet development
    • Participation with new and trial equipment installation and or start-up
    • Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
    • Some travel with exposure to adverse working conditions at customer site locations.
    • Keep Manager aware of pertinent issues and information warranting supervisor’s knowledge, action and/or resolution.
    • Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
    • Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused attitude within and between departments.
    • Comply with all departmental and Company policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    • Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir's Duty of Care.
    • Mandatory MSHA 5000-23 Surface, coal metal & nonmetal training required for all mine site visits. 
    • Site Specific mine training if required by mine operation for doing work on site premises.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    College student; sophomore or above, with 3.0 GPA or greater that is pursuing the Mining, Metallurgical, and or Mechanical Engineering discipline and undergraduate degree. Fundamental mechanical aptitude, experience and understanding is desirable

      

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to effectively present information to customers, peers and superiors.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with formulas, scientific equations, and graphs. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Requires a valid driver’s license.  

    Requires MSHA New Miner part 46 certification

    Requires site specific safety training as required

     

    OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

    • When in the field, the individual will be subject to power generation and mineral processing facilities which can have sudden temperature changes, exposure to noise and fumes, exposure to dust and slurries that are being processed at the facility.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, general office environment, and travel situations. Moderate to loud noise.

    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer (Microsoft Office & Lotus Notes, IBM System AS/400) and other related software, a keyboard, calculator, telephone, Fax, photocopier (blueprint and office). Use of field service equipment such as, surphaser scanner, sampling equipment, tachometers, thermometers, dial indicators, tension testers, vibration monitors and occasional use of Shore hardness and Rockwell Hardness testers and hydrodynamic test loops.
