  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The co-op student will support the mechanical engineering staff in the commercial and nuclear departments and participate in various assigned projects.  The mechanical engineering co-op will attend and participate in Company meetings to gain exposure to the processes.  The co-op student will have an opportunity to observe the manufacture, assembly and testing of products in our manufacturing facility.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • The co-op will support the Engineering team to process and respond to customer order requests.  Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Collect and review data to assess customer needs accounting for function, cost and material specifications.
    • Identify, evaluate and modify existing bills of material (BOMs) and assembly drawings for standard customer orders.
    • Develop and create BOMs that meet specifications for non-standard customer orders.
    • Produce 2D and 3D customer assembly drawings (AutoCAD and SolidWorks).
    • Originate engineering change orders (ECOs) for documentation to ensure fulfillment of design intent.
    • Generate revision updates and modifications to existing CAD drawings.
    • Depending on the student’s skill level and interests, opportunities exist for the student to be involved in component design and troubleshooting on the production floor.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    • Must be able to work on-site at the Ipswich plant
    • Must be able to move about the factory and office freely and communicate with personnel at all levels.
    • Must be a candidate for B.S. in Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Engineering
    • Only candidates who do not require sponsorship will be considered

    Core Competencies

    Reasoning Ability:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Able to present information orally and in written format professionally
    • Must be able to work in a time critical environment


    Computer Skills:

    • Microsoft Excel proficiency is critical
    • Working knowledge of MRP Systems is needed – Info (M3 - Lawson preferred)
    • Understands information warehouse systems data and is able to extract and manipulate information in meaningful ways
    • Basic inventory management approaches (working capital tracking, turns, DOH) and financial reporting skills are needed


    Work Environment:

    • Works in a metal manufacturing department with large equipment at Ipswich facility.
    •             Works alone or in a team setting successfully
