    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Quality Engineer will be responsible for product quality and providing data to drive process, design, or component improvement projects, which will deliver DPPM reduction. The Quality Engineer will work closely with process, product, and lean engineering to support or lead quality projects. QE will work closely with customers and technical support in analyzing field quality problems. The QE will also adhere to the Quality Management System by working in accordance with current procedures and work instructions. Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Program Management, and Supply Chain to meet customer expectations.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Objectives:

    • Initiate product and process engineering projects to reduce unit defects
    • Develop and implement prompt containment solutions to prevent future defects
    • Create and maintain prioritized project list to support quality improvement goals
    • Collect and analyze data to determine component and system failure modes
    • Develop and sustain relationships with technical support, customers, and field service representatives to better understand field quality issues
    • Review and report weekly/monthly warranty and concession claims
    • Correlate warranty/field failures with factory processes and develop, implement and maintain process improvement plans
    • Lead and support projects for component, system, and process improvements initiatives
    • Develop business cases to support project and resource requirements
    • Respond daily to technical questions and requests from technical support and field service representatives
    • Partner with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering to investigate root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions for customer complaints
    • Provide New Product Quality Support as needed.
    • Continuously improve QMS processes and procedures
    • Conduct quality system audits, including creating audits finding reports, determining proper corrective and preventive actions and closing out audit findings
    • Develop training to build quality awareness
    • Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with approved data
    • Support the Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system
    • Develop SPC (statistical process control) reporting of machine capabilities and develop corrective action programs for improvement
    • Preparation of QA reports

     

    Measurements:

    • Quality Key Process Indicators, such as customer complaint closure, Internal, & Customer DPPM
    • On-time completion of assigned projects.
    • Cost of Poor Quality

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

     

    • Bachelor of science degree in Engineering or technical field
    • 3+ years Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
    • Working knowledge of GD & T.
    • Working knowledge of parts and features which may be critical in application.
    • Skilled and capable of selecting and using various measuring equipment.
    • Computer literate within a Windows environment and proficient with Microsoft office products.
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Ability to make timely decisions and apply sound judgment
    • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to complete multiple assignments simultaneously.
    • Ability to communicate at all levels within organization

     

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and/or public groups.

     

    Mathematical:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have computer experience including Microsoft Office.  Experience with statistical software such as JMP or Minitab is preferred.

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Certified Six Sigma Greenbelt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred

     

    Physical Demands:

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

     

    Work Environment:

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Personal protective equipment is required in certain areas of the facility.
