    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Perform duties required to create pump and valve designs and design modifications, Item and Bill of Material creation, and related engineering drawings in a Design for Six Sigma environment.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

      • Act in a Senior Engineering capacity. Coach and mentor others. Advise Management on technical issues.
      • Create and review drawings and designs to conform with industry standards, specifications, and organizational guidelines
      • Create detail part drawings and 3-D models
      • Responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir’s Duty of Care
      • Review and investigate design alternatives and ensure all factors are considered to meet product requirements and revisions
      • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate detailed notes or sketches for designer or drafter to create detailed drawings
      • Respond to inquiries pertaining to drawings from other departments
      • Input product structure design and data to formulate BOMs and revise existing structures
      • Basic understanding of drawing standards and GD&T per ANSI Y14.5
      • Fundamental understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis
      • Capable of performing engineering analysis
      • Capable of using 3D solid modeling tools
      • Examine and inspect products at various stages of manufacture to maintain quality and reliability, especially with first articles
      • Basic Project Management Skills
      • Perform some duties of Engineer/Design Manager in his/her absence

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering required with minimum 5 to 7 years’ work experience. Experience with designing rotating equipment and/or valves preferred. API Pump experience highly desired. MSS Valve Standard experience highly desired. Experience conducting Finite Element Analysis and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics a plus.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    Mathematical:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Proficiency with geometric analysis.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills:

    Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet. Extensive experience in 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting required, Unigraphics NX preferred. Experience with use of TeamCenter PLM software and Ansys FEA/CFD a plus.

    Physical Demands:

    Stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, reach with hand and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, Talk or hear, taste or smell. Weight will not exceed 45 pounds without assistance.

    Work Environment:

    Moderate, Will require PPE in manufacturing environment.
