    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    This position will perform all planned QC inspections for shop and prepare necessary QC reports; in addition to performing in-house calibration of measuring/testing instruments at planned intervals.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Coordinate with Shop Foremen or District Manager to carry out necessary inspection/QC checks of workshop job orders and prepare necessary stage inspection reports 
    • Oversee pressure test carried out for the shop production requisitions
    • Assumes responsibility for the final inspection and release of workshop job orders after ensuring all QC activities are completed as per the Documentation & Final Inspection check sheet 
    • Perform in-house calibration of linear measuring instruments and calibration of in-house pressure gauges
    • Be responsible to keep the calibration status current and maintain the physical calibration status control tags on the instruments
    • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for the discrepant items at each stage of inspection and follow up with HSEQ Manager for their close out
    • Perform all necessary activities to achieve Quality objectives set for the QA/QC Department 
    • Preparation of QC reports of completed job orders
    • Current Calibration status maintained for in-house measuring/testing instruments

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education/Experience:
    Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Language:
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

     

    Mathematical Skills:
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

     

    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

    Computer Skills:
    Microsoft Office

     

    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills:
    Minimum level II qualifications in relevant NDE methods. Possess certification or has taken formal training in ISO 9001: 2000 program. Must possess necessary NDE, Welding Inspection qualifications. Through knowledge of precision measuring/testing instruments used in machine shop including portable hardness tester & thread gauges. Familiarity to interpret machine shop drawings and understand machining symbols and tolerance limits. Ability to perform calibration of measuring instruments using in-house slip gauges/length bars and pressure gauges using dead weight tester as per procedures. Knowledge on Dye Penetrate & Magnetic Particle NDE inspections.

     

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

     

    Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outside for short periods of time and is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment can be significant, as expected in a heavy industry manufacturing facility. Personal protective equipment is required in certain areas of the facility. While performing duties this job may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
