    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    • To ensure that company operations are in compliance with applicable state and federal safety and environmental regulations (i.e. DEQ ,RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, OSHA, RTK, and TOSCA).

    • To provide training and supply materials to supervisors for employee training.

    • To keep the Environmental and Health & Safety Management Systems effective and maintain ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 Certification.

    • To continually improve safety and environmental awareness throughout the business.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Assist the manufacturing sites to comply with state/federal environmental and safety regulations.

    • Evaluate and implement occupational safety practices which will reduce the level of risk to employees from work related injuries and illnesses.

    • Prepare environmental permit applications and compliance reports as required by state and federal agencies.

    • Develop and maintain effective plans that address hazard communication, emergency response and accident prevention.

    • Ensure the implementation of the Company EHS Policy for the prevention of injury, damage or loss to Company personnel and resources and ensure that line management are fully aware of their accountability for the environment, health, safety and welfare of Company Employees and others who may be affected by Company activities.

    • Responsible for managing, advising on, and where appropriate enforcing, all EHS issues at strategic and operational levels. 

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from a four-year college or university preferred.

    • Minimum three years of experience in EHS and/or safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Research and analytical skills necessary to look-up and interpret EHS regulations, requirements, company practices, and other related information for the purpose of developing recommendations for action

    • Project management skills necessary to develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs involving procedures, training, record-keeping, monitoring, and reporting requirements

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

    • Skilled with MS Office

      Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    • Language Skills 

      Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

    • Mathematical Skills

      Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. OSHA 10 Hour Certification or other Safety Certification is a plus.
