    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Perform duties required to promote and procure the sale of company products in assigned product and/or geographic areas; assist customers with proper product selection and application; perform related engineering and sales activities.  Coordinate project details from sale to shipment and start up; liaison with engineering, production and quality departments. 

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

     

    • Help the customer define problem solutions and develop specifications written around company products; respond to formal, informal, written and oral customer inquiries; select suitable products to meet the application requirements; prepare and submit quotes; follow-up on quotes until final decision is reached; recommend price levels and credit terms and respond to commercial requirements in order to maximize revenue and profitability while minimizing risk
    • Work closely with engineering, accounting and production to ensure design/customer requirements are met
    • Troubleshoot the customer’s process and recommend ways to improve system or product performance
    • Track the activities/planned projects of existing and potential customers; identify their needs and how the customer can be satisfied by applying company products and technology 
    • Customer contact may be by telephone, written communication and personal visits which will require domestic and foreign travel 
    • Travel to customer locations for product start-ups, service calls, maintenance seminars, sales calls, and other similar activities, passport is required
    • Work with company representatives and provide information regarding the company and its products; inform them of quotations and other activities pertaining to their geographic or market area
    • Recommend changes in product design or construction to improve performance and/or market potential
    • Act as project manager on special projects to ensure that all contractual obligations (documentation, inspections, shipping preparations, etc.) are met
    • Write and present technical bulletins/papers as required
    • Submit parts quotations; receive and enter product orders; advise customers of order status; answer customer questions
    • Perform the duties of the other engineers in their absence; may need to perform duties of the Sales Manager when he/she is absent

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline involving the use of a broad practical knowledge. Requires a minimum of nine years in the performance of related duties. Requires the ability to learn hydraulics and understand and apply pump characteristic curves, pump affinity laws and develop system head curves. Requires passport or the ability to obtain one.

     

    Language Skills:

    Foreign language skills are required. Requires the proficiency in reading and writing a language other than, but including English, preferably French, Spanish or Portuguese

     

    Mathematical:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problem, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form.

     

    Computer Skills:

    Requires strong personal computer skills using a variety of software packages. Including Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

     

    Physical Demands:

    Sitting, walking, reaching, grasping, talking and hearing. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at 20 feet or more. Very light physical demand - occasional lifting and moving of items weighing up to 10 pounds.

     

    Work Environment:

    Normal office conditions with exposure to plant environment; travel approximately twelve weeks out of a year for one to three weeks at a time.
