    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    This position performs electrical systems installation and troubleshooting of electrical problems.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities



    • Follow proper safety guidelines such as point of work risk assessment, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as require
    • Monitors contractor performance and works closely with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed according to code and company specifications.
    • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
    • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
    • Familiar with low and medium voltage applications.
    • Competent with programming Variable Frequency Drives. (VFD’s)
    • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot PLC controls.
    • Extensive knowledge of safe working practices in regards to wire sizes, fuse sizes and overloading of electrical circuits.
    • Installs and bends conduit (pipes or tubing) and pulls insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
    • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
    • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
    • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
    • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
    • Skilled in the use of related instruments and tools including multi-meter, amprobe, meggar, hand tools and small power tools in order to perform the functions of the job in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Performs and or assists outside vendors with preventive and predictive maintenance on all electrical equipment.
    • Work from ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
    • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
    • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
    • Completes required documentation in the CMMS system.
    • Performs other duties as assigned that can include HVAC maintenance, Plumbing and general campus maintenance.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


    • Journeyman Electrician License a must.


    • Must have considerable knowledge of electrical systems and components to maintain and repair building electrical equipment.
    • Must be able to safely use all shop and hand tools.
    • Must be able to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and extendable boom lifts.


    Language Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.



    Ability to add, sub-tract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret schematic drawings, procedure changes, and work orders.


    Computer Skills:

    The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software:

    Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office and web based CMMS system.

    Physical Demands:

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


    Work Environment:

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection.
