    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Field Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring products are capable of being installed safely and efficiently. The Field Support Engineer creates and manages field installation procedures for surface pressure control products for North America. In addition, the Field Support Engineer is the engineering point of contact for field non-conformance reports and ensures identified preventative actions are effective. The Field Support Engineer collaborates with product engineering, field operations and product line management in successful introduction of new products.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Creates product installation procedures and manages product installation procedure library
    • Ensure field non-conformance root cause, corrective action, and preventative action related to product issues are complete and effective
    • Identifies and implements improvements to product installation procedures
    • Recommends product improvements
    • Attends new product design reviews and provides input on installation of product
    • Utilize CAD software to create/modify installation procedure drawings and/or analyze product non-conformances
    • Perform calculations required for API 6A products
    • Ability to perform duties in the absence of direct supervision
    • Ability to manage assigned projects and effectively lead cross-functional teams
    • Travel to field locations and districts is expected and may consume 10-20% of the employee's time

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


    Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or Technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering or technical role related to API 6A equipment. Product design, installation, and testing experience with multiple API 6A products is preferred.



    Strong written and verbal communication skills, specifically, capable of reading and interpreting technical specifications, customer, industry and business publications and writing technical reports targeted at colleagues, senior management or customers.


    Mathematical Skills:

    Sound mathematical understanding, with fast mental arithmetic capability.  Ability to calculate loads, deflections, and stresses common to API 6A equipment and compare against industry standard allowable stresses.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to work independently and without supervision. Clear, rational and logical thought processes.  Capable of leading a systematic, data-driven problem solving process.


    Computer Skills:

    Fluent use of Microsoft Office tools – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint

    Skilled at utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to complete/analyze designs



    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


    Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work outside for periods of time and is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee assist with field installations of new product or during analysis of non-confirming product. The noise level in the work environment can be significant, as expected in a heavy industry manufacturing facility or drilling rig location. Personal protective equipment is required in certain areas of the facility.  While performing duties this job may be exposed to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
