    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the layout of Weir Minerals North America (WMNA) products in customer locations, considering functionality, cost and ease of installation in accordance with company policies and procedures.

     

    Visit customer sites, take measurements and create layout drawings from sketches and other sources. Produce detailed reports of changes to Engineering documents for use in the installation of parts and assemblies. Assist with measurements and customer meetings as required during engineering projects. Use knowledge of computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software. Draft and create routine to moderately complex plant layout drawings, sketches, and installation instructions.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Create detailed layout and assembly drawings for installation and customers, ensuring accuracy and quality on a daily basis.
    • Prepare layouts for engineering approval to current department standards.
    • Assist other Designers providing guidance and checking of design work
    • Complete Drawing Revisions (DR) as required.
    • Provide technical support to Engineering and Sales and Marketing in a timely manner.
    • Research existing designs and product structures as reference materials for new design requests.
    • Capable of creating technical presentations and assist in the preparation of manuals on an as needed basis.
    • Complete special projects as assigned.
    • Regular and reliable attendance is key to performance of this job.
    • Comply with all Engineering Department and Company policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused attitude within and between departments.
    • Keep Manager aware of pertinent issues and information warranting Manager’s knowledge, action and/or resolution.
    • Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology.
    • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    • Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir's Duty of Care.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Equivalent to two years of junior college or apprenticeship training and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

      

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires ability to obtain MSHA mine safety certification

     

    OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

    Competency in CAD systems: Siemens NX (preferred), ProEngineer, AutoCad or similar. Ability to learn new software. Ability to manage projects and work to objectives. Comprehensive communication, motivation, human relations, and organization skills required. Ability to create layouts with limited direction based upon a good understanding of the product and sound mechanical aptitude. Ability to consider several approaches to solving a problem and reason through the best approach. Good solid modeling skills using Siemens NX software a plus.

     

    Must be able to influence colleagues and have capability to manage projects with multiple team members. Must have comprehensive understanding of general engineering principles. Ability to create 2D and 3D layout drawings

     

     

    Ability to work 70% on or visiting customer sites, 30% in office. Must be willing to travel on a local, domestic and international level.  

     

    MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS

    Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer and job related software (Microsoft Office & Lotus Notes), telephone, fax, photocopier, etc.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, general office environment, and travel situations. Work is performed frequently near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor conditions, and occasionally in high, precarious places and in darkness or poor lighting.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, sudden temperature changes, and risk of electrical shock. Moderate to loud noise.
