    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Reporting to the Director of Comminution Technology Group, the Senior Automation Control Electrical Designer (represents Weir Minerals Division Technology Group) is responsible for designer activities for the research and development, design & augmentation of the electrical, controls & automation systems, Sustainment and New Product Development for all Comminution Products.

    To achieve the agreed requirements, strategic and business objectives, in accordance with company policies and procedures. Compliance with all defined Roles, Responsibilities and Accountabilities (RRAs) as documented by the Comminution Technology Group for the assigned position(s)


    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Compliance with all defined Roles, Responsibilities and Accountabilities (RRAs) as documented by the Comminution CTG for the assigned position
    • Be responsible for the design of electrical system, PLC control system and HMI for the new products, based on major components and a system architecture
    • Be able to start and finish the design of electrical schematic, layout, production, control logic. etc. by using EPlan software etc.
    • Be able to learn and support making minor changes to PLC and HMI program by using the programming software of Siemens portal or step7, Wincc, OMRON, Allen Bradley
    • Be responsible for handling and follow up of electric and control system(s) in new sales orders.
    • Be responsible for troubleshooting and any associated upgrades of electric and control system in existing comminution equipment
    • Responsible for planning their own work schedule to meet internal and external customer requirements
    • Support technical training and drawing review of other electrical engineers in the department.
    • Support in-house testing of PLC and HMI program for the new products before delivery.
    • Support site commissioning for the new products and plant system project.
    • Support supplier selection of major electric and control components.
    • Support making user manual, technical instructions and other documents for electric and control system.
    • Support dealing with some urgent technical problems from jobsites.

    Complete other tasks assigned by supervisor and / or project lead engineer on time.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor degree, or Engineering Technology, or Associates degree with major in Electrical and / or Automation & Controls.
    • At least eight (8) years working experience of Electrical, Automation & Controls related with associated systems for Heavy Machinery
    • At least two (2) years working experience of Electrical, Automation & Controls related with the design and integration of Comminution Equipment is preferred.
    • Must have at least three (3) years’ experience in creation of complex electric / controls schematics and associated documents using EPlan.
    • Ability to write Siemens Step7,Wincc, Allen Bradley etc. software code.
    • Independent project execution experience is preferred.


    Independence Level

    Have full professional competence to manage one or more engineering projects concurrently, with emphasis on in-depth technical contribution. May guide or train lower level engineers.   Actively participates in project planning by demonstrating knowledge of project management tools and techniques on cross-functional teams.


    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations to the CTG, management and customers.

    Professional fluency in English communication (listen, read, spoken, written)


    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Certificates, License’s and Regulations

    Requires a valid driver’s license.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Familiarity with good manufacturing and assembly processes for Comminution & Construction Equipment is required. Must have good commonsense based electrical / automation control aptitude, with documented hands on experience throughout their working career

    Accepts responsibility and accountability for their own actions. Willingness and ability to travel as necessary, (Percentage travel 15%)

    Must have a passion for the business and the “will” to succeed

    Working knowledge of international design standards including US & ISO and the associated drafting standards for electrical schematics, P&IDs, Panel layouts & Installation / assembly drawings.

    Working knowledge of electrical installation / subassembly / assembly BOM structures and content.

    Experience using the E Plan tools ( Electrical P8 Professional)

    Skilled in the use of common change management tools, principles and processes to include but not be limited to ECR/ECN/ECO and preferably Siemen’s GPDM PCN processes.


    Computer Skills:

    High level of competency, to include but not be limited to, the use of the following engineering tools:

    • Step7
    • Wincc
    • AutoCAD
    • EPlan
    • Siemens GPDM / Teamcenter
    • Visio
    • Microsoft Office & 365
    • Microsoft Project

    Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids

    Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer and job related software (Microsoft Office & Office 365), scientific calculator, telephone, photocopier, etc.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, general office environment, and travel situations. Moderate to loud noise.


    When in the field, the individual will be subject to power generation and mineral processing facilities which can have sudden temperature changes, exposure to noise and fumes, exposure to dust and slurries that are being processed at the facility.
