Under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer I is responsible for developing and implementing methods, machines, and tooling in order to cost effectively manufacture quality parts according to design specifications in accordance with company policies and procedures. Also responsible for utilizing continuous improvement methods to seek out and eliminate waste in our processes.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and technical procedures. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers. Ability to write technical presentations that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to peers and management.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as computer, scanner and fax machine. Able to utilize business and manufacturing related software (email, MS office, CAD/CAM, MES). Able to correctly use various measuring equipment used by shop employees. Able to utilize technical reference material to understand tooling geometry and determine metal removal specifications. Able to use scientific calculators or software to perform geometric and trigonometry functions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Requires a valid driver’s license. Certificate of class completion of CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred).
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Strong mechanical and mathematical background with ability to interpret comprehensive blueprints. Must be a self-starter with the ability to exercise considerable initiative, judgment, and discretion. Strong analytical and problem solving skill, organization, communication (oral, written, auditing), motivation, human relations, record keeping, and follow through skills required. Strong interpersonal skills providing the ability to communicate and work objectively with all levels of the organization to improve efficiencies through process improvements. Ability to project and maintain professionalism with a diversity of people inside and outside the company. Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations and maintain attention to detail.
Understand and able to produce programs and setup instructions using CAD/CAM software. Understand and able to use Microsoft Excel to setup and execute spread sheets (graphs, caluclations, etc). Able to utilize CAD software to maintain plant layouts and plan work cell improvements.
Ability to read micrometers, verniers, indicators, and machinist scales. In-dpeth knowledge of machining and required inspection equipment. Thoroughly familiar with various cutting tools, (high-speed steel, coated H.S.S., carbide, etc...) and ability to determine cutting specifications. Familiar with various materials (cast iron, steel, etc.) and appropriate tooling to machine them.
