Reporting to the Applications Engineering Supervisor, the Senior Applications Engineer (AEIII) is responsible for providing the Regional Sales Directors (RSDs), Area Sales Managers (ASMs), Product Managers (PMs) and Sales Representatives (SRs) with technical application support and sales proposal preparation assistance in accordance with company policies and procedures.
The Comminution AE is responsible for reviewing a customer’s technical specifications to both determine the best solution that Weir can offer while meeting all requirements and identify those items that deviate from Weir’s Comminution offerings. The AE is also responsible for working with vendors regarding buyout items that also need to meet the customer supplied specifications. The AE has the Ability to create or review client flow sheets in Aggflow and comment or offer alternative solutions upon review.
With assistance from the Finance group, as necessary, review commercial terms and conditions submitted in the Request for Quote (RFQ) packages and identify items that deviate from Weir’s standard offering.
Equipment Selection and Flow Sheet Review
After review of technical specifications, it will be the AE’s responsibility to use the information available in the RFQ (request for quote) package to make the proper equipment selection. This includes flowsheet review for plant systems, review and optimization and the ability to apply and optimization individual machinery selections.
Ensure proper selection, use and application of comminution equipment.
Once the specifications have been reviewed and the appropriate equipment has been selected, the AE will be responsible for preparing and submitting the formal quotations in a timely manner. Quote preparation will include working with the product managers, sub-vendors, and outside sales personnel to determine the appropriate pricing and terms required. These proposals may be in scale of capital equipment to full capital projects. The AE needs to be able to sit with sales in front of customers and present proposals to dealers and customers.
Once an order is received, the AE is responsible to enter the order into the ERP system in an expeditious manner. Order entry needs to be done accurately and thoroughly such that any other department who sees the order will be able to see all pertinent details. The AE will also be responsible to work directly with other departments to resolve any unforeseen issues that come up.
The AE will also be expected to provide technical support to customers and internal sales personnel, as necessary, to help troubleshoot problems that customers may experience. The AE will be required to work with the RSDs, ASMs, SRs other Applications Engineers in prioritizing and assisting with technical applications and preparation of sales proposals for Weir products. In some cases, customer site visits may be required. Some overnight travel should be expected.
Assists in training and motivating new Sales Engineering personnel.
Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
Review and troubleshoot complex system applications.
Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records and documents.
Complete special projects as assigned.
Comply with all Product Marketing Department and Company policies, procedures and programs.
Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team-oriented and customer-focused attitude within and between departments.
Keep the Applications Engineering Supervisor and the Sales Engineering Manager aware of any pertinent issues or concerns.

Education and/or Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field is preferred. A comparable technical degree with relevant practical experience would also be considered. A Minimum 8 years of experience in application engineering and/or product selection is preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
The ability to work with algebra, geometry and trigonometry, percentages, and fractions is required. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables is required.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The position requires strong knowledge of Aggflow or equivalent. Abilities in AutoCAD or equivalent 2D Drawing software are required. Good Excel and Visio skills are also needed. Abilities in 3D design software are a plus but not a requirement.

Knowledge of Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Material Science, and other general engineering topics is preferred. Experience with process equipment and power transmission equipment is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Requires a valid driver’s license. Up to 5% travel is required.
MSHA New Miner training or completion of training in first 6 months.
