    Our Hose Building division is looking for a few individuals who will embody our Vision!

    Hose manufacturing is an uncommon and respectable trade. When manufacturing a hose, you must take proper care to detail to ensure its safety and functionality is higher than satisfactory standards. We are looking for people good with numbers, being able to accurately and promptly calculate measurements.

    Every day will be a new exciting challenge! One day you might be evaluating blueprints and the next you might be fabricating parts of the hose. You’ll be proud as you see the results of what you and your teammates are building, looking at your accomplishments and thinking “Hey, we did that!” Develop a work ethic built in camaraderie as you work closely with several other individuals from diverse backgrounds.

    As a Hose Builder you are Responsible for:

    • Fabrication, static testing and mounting accessories to insure a quality end product is delivered to the customer.
    • Reading and interpreting blueprints to assure accurate assembly of products including preparation of components before fabrication and testing and inspection after completion at normal level of efficiency to meet production standards.
    • Inspecting in-process and completed products per the design specification, advising the shift lead-person of defects. Accurately complete all required data, time sheets, quantity of parts etc. Advise the shift lead-person of time discrepancies relative to production rates for all products.
    • Producing product or perform work that will meet Weir’s efficiency and quality standards.
    • Perform daily maintenance (TPM) and housekeeping (5S) for machine and/or work area. Advise the shift lead-person of potential plant, equipment and safety problems.
    • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.

    Requirements

    • Successful Hose Builders have a High School diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years successful similar work experience.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Basic shop math. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to use and read measuring equipment.
    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
    • Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
    • Able to complete and clear our pre-employment physical, background drug screenings.

     

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Read and interpret blueprints (build sheets), measurement tools and work instructions.
    • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and understand basic math skills, including: decimals, fractions.
    • Selects proper tooling, equipment and/or raw material to perform the job.
    • Applies quality control measures, uses precision measuring devices and accurately records measurements.
    • Operates equipment and hand tools to produce product or perform work, in a safe manner that will meet Weir’s efficiency and quality standards
    • Fabricate and inspect in-process parts and completed hoses, hose tubes, rubber fabrication per the design specification, advising the Team Lead or Supervisor of defects and discrepancies, relative to production rates, for all assemblies..
    • Lifts and moves heavy objects using forklift, cart other material handling equipment or by over-head crane.
    • Records and reports production labor hours, product quantity and product quality, as required. Job on/off work orders accurately. 
    • Assist in training, when required.
    • Exhibits flexibility in moving to other operational areas and shifts, as needed; works overtime when necessary to achieve or maintain customer promises and relationships.
    • Produce product or perform work that will meet Weir’s efficiency and quality standards.
    • Perform daily maintenance and housekeeping (6S) for machine and/or work area.
    • Advise the Team Lead or Supervisor of potential plant, equipment, and safety problems.
    • Regular and reliable attendance is key to performance of this job.
    • Promote and maintain a flexible, cooperative, team oriented, and customer focused attitude within and between departments.
    • Attend training, safety, employee, and department meetings, as required.
    • Complete special projects as assigned.
    • Comply with all Operations Department and Company policies, procedures, and programs. Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    • Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
    • Responsible for Environmental Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir's Duty of Care.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience in an industrial environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A mechanical background is a plus.

     

    CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

    Forklift license required within 6 months of employment.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

    OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

    Basic knowledge of shop math. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Must have some mechanical background. Working knowledge of pneumatic and hand tools. Organization, communication, motivation, human relations, problem solving, and follow-through skills. Work well under pressure and with a diversity of people. Ability to promote and maintain positive relationships. Good work ethic - proactive.

     

    MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS

    Requires the ability to operate a computer for basic e-mail and job log on and off activity. Basic hand tools, part measuring equipment, overhead and jib cranes, lifting chains and slings, pneumatic wrenches, chisels, and grinders. Pushing, pulling, prying, lifting and carrying rolls of rubber, product parts, steel molds and etc. up to 50 pounds on a frequent to constant basis.
