    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The purpose of the role of a Machining Specialist is to set up and operate major machining equipment including lathes, drills, and NC machines.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    • Set up and operate major machining equipment including lathes, drills, and NC machines. 
    • Interpret blueprints/drawings in completing assigned work.
    • Verify quality/quantity of work performed and ensure accurate reporting of the same.
    • Operate multiple machines simultaneously.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on all applicable equipment.
    • Assist in the design and construction of work cells.
    • Fill in for work cell members as needed.
    • Monitor methods, quality, and practices of cell output.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    • Must be able to operate major machining equipment including NC/CNC machines.  Previous journeyman level machining experience.
    • Read/interpret drawings and blueprint instructions.
    • Knowledge of machinery, methods, and policies of each work cell.
    • Operate power tools and have mechanical ability.
    • Operates forklifts and overhead/jib cranes.
    • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

    Language Skills:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    Mathematical:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills:

    AS 400, Microsoft Office

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts; the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The noise level for the work environment is usually loud. OSHA 10 Hour Certification or other Safety Certification is a plus.
