    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Weir Pressure Control is a part of Weir Oil and Gas, which designs, manufactures and provides technical support and field services for products used in the upstream pressure pumping, upstream pressure control and downstream refining operations. As part of the broader Weir Group, we have a small, highly-technical local engineering team backed by over 200 engineers globally in more than 70 countries, all dedicated to creating innovative engineering solutions which make our global customers more efficient.


    The Control Systems Engineer contributes to the design and deployment of intelligent control and monitoring systems for the oil and gas industry.


    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Responsibilities including but not limited to:

    • Design new products, as directed by the engineering manager, that meet safety, performance, reliability, cost, timing, and customer requirements.
    • Use good time management to execute multiple engineering projects through all phases of the design process, from conceptualization through commercialization and support, while maintaining priorities and project schedules.
    • Design products in compliance with API, ASME, ISO, NACE, NFPA, OSHA, and other applicable standards.
    • Organize cross functional team meetings to collect design inputs and hold design reviews.
    • Collaborate with key vendors on component selection and development, and outsourced design and manufacturing.
    • Compile and analyze requirements to specify control and monitoring equipment. Produce functional requirements, specifications, and performance objectives. Identify and recommend new technologies
    • Use engineering tools such as Solidworks and Visio to create models of equipment, fabrication drawings, system layouts, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
    • Author control and monitoring software using LabVIEW, PLC, or other platforms.
    • Select system components including controllers, sensors, cables, connectors, power supplies, motors, actuators, and valves.
    • Package control systems for durability and for use in hazardous locations / explosive environments.
    • Design, set up, and execute product R&D, test, and validation activities.
    • Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for equipment and products.
    • Author product operating manuals and service manuals.
    • Thoroughly document all aspects of NPI projects in design books per Weir and API Q1 standards.
    • Performs all duties in a safe manner and in compliance with Weir EHS policies

    • Approximately 10% of the time domestic or international travel.  Occasional travel to oil and gas well sites is required for product installation and support
    • Additional duties may be assigned

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Required (Electrical Preferred) or Equivalent Experience.

    Experience in Product Design required.

    Experience designing products within a quality management system preferred (API Q1, ISO9001).

    Experience related to oil and gas drilling or hydraulic fracturing equipment preferred.

    Experience with fluid power and motion control systems preferred.

    Experience with DAQ hardware and software (LabVIEW or similar) and common sensor types required.

    Familiarity with industrial communications and hazardous location requirements for electrical systems and instrumentation is preferred.

    Physical Demands:

    Must be able to stand for the entire workday.  Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, and feel.  Must be able to reach with arms.  Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.  Must be able to see, speak, hear, and smell.  Must be able to lift 25 pounds independently.


    Work Environment:

    Moderate noise, with intermittent loud noises.  Conditions may be wet or humid, and involve working around moving mechanical parts.  Occasional work in high, precarious places.  Work environment may intermittently involve fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.  Some work with electrical equipment is required. Will be exposed to outside weather conditions and a non-air conditioned environment.


    Travel Requirements:

    Approximately 10% of the time domestic or international travel.  Occasional travel to oil and gas well sites is required for product installation and support.
