    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The SHE Specialist is responsible for implementing and supporting the development of short and long range plans and roadmaps for all locations in the Northeast United States and will manage the activities of managers and staff engaged in developing, evaluating, and improving safety performance and systems.  The position is also tasked with improving the environmental and sustainability programs. The SHE Specialist will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and support third party standards. Coaching, training, and leading are required to drive high levels of SHE performance through all levels of the organization.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Develop short and long range plans to improve the effectiveness of systems and processes while ensuring compliance with customer, corporate, governmental and third-party safety & environmental standards, ensuring robust, timely data collection, monitoring, and analysis for any and all reportable metrics.
    • Train and provide leadership and work assignments for, for engineers and Service Center staff, and Manufacturing staff engaged in developing, analyzing, modifying, and improving safety processes and procedures to ensure the continuing ability of the Company to safely produce quality products to meet customer delivery commitments.
    • Support sustainability efforts by assisting in the development and implementation of processes designed to reduce energy usage and overall carbon footprint.  Ensure proper corporate reporting and drive projects.
    • Advise employees and management on minimizing and eliminating workplace/environmental risks.  Ensure policies and procedures are established, prepared, implemented, revised, and maintained to meet current and known future safety, health, and environmental requirements.   
    • Major involvement in the creation, implementation, and continual update of SHE training.  Establish procedures for training employees.  Ensure the development and maintain resource information.  Provide regular training to employees in partnership with team leaders and managers on all shifts.
    • Participate in planning and implementing changes in production methods, tooling and equipment, space allocations, workforce utilization, production schedules, and other factors required to maintain or improve compliance with SHE and DOT standards of existing productions/processes and to establish initial and continuing compliance with quality standards for new and/or redesigned products/processes.
    • Develop and manage the implementation of policies, procedures, and systems to support the maintenance of the Weir Management System.  As part of that goal, direct the design, development, and modification of processes and systems.
    • Maintain timely and effective communication with employees, in order to provide positive feedback to motivate good, safe performance, ensure that all employees have current and accurate information required for safe job performance, and have access to training and development opportunities
    • Occasional travel to field locations will be required from time to time to complete Risk Assessments.
    • Plan and conduct/direct facility audits of service centers and Manufacturing facilities and recommend actions for the correction of hazardous situations.  Conduct/direct operational audits of required SHE related documentation to ensure compliance.  Prepare/ensure audit result reports and follow up on remediation required.
    • Provide technical guidance and support as SME‘s in certain areas of the SHE management areas and serve as a resource to internal and external clients, customer and contractors. Represent facilities during regulatory agency visits.
    • Keep up to date of any safety and environmental law or regulation changes that impact the organization.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of 3-5 years related experience and/or training within Oil & Gas and/or heavy industrial equipment manufacturing and servicing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachlor's degree preferred.  The candidate must have a proven track record of implementing change management and have experience with standardization, management systems and consolidation of processes. The right candidate will have had exposure to an industrial heavy equipment manufacturing, service center and field environment.


    LANGUAGE:   Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.   Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.


    REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


    COMPUTER SKILLS: The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software:   Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Databases, ERP Processes, Data Collection/Analysis Systems




    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. In certain areas of the facility personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, and ear plugs.
