    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Reporting to Engineering Manager, main emphasis will be product development and design for the Nuclear Power Industry. Ideal candidate will have the following:

    • Solid proven experience of product development and design for the Nuclear Power Industry
    • Experience in designing electro hydraulic systems including, but not limited to: hydraulic cylinders, gas charged accumulator systems, pneumatic cylinders, electric valve operators.
    • Experience in taking products from initial concept through development to production ready.
    • Experience in communicating technically with international customers

    Proven ability to manage a small team of engineers responsible for design, validation, and support of future and legacy valve actuator products.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

     

    Including but not limited to:

    • Manage a small team of engineers responsible for design, manufacture, validation, and support of current, future, and legacy valve actuator products.
    • Supplement existing resources by personally performing engineering functions when required.
    • Ensure engineered solutions meet customer specifications.
    • Coordinate and direct engineering tasks, making detailed plans to accomplish goals.
    • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, staff evaluations, training recommendations.
    • High level of competency in creation of 3D models and corresponding drawing package, BOM, and structured part numbers.
    • Create test prototypes
    • Collaborate with other engineers and departmental teams
    • Prepare documentation such as test procedures, manuals and technical specifications
    • Research and track prototype performance
    • Understanding of MRP systems, BOM structures
    • Electrical enclosure and wiring diagrams
    • FMEA Risk Analysis
    • Design Calculations (stress, fatigue, etc.)

     

    Essential Functions – Ongoing:

    • Promote Hiller’s core objectives for a fair and equitable work place, profitability, core company standards and ethics
    • Contribute to streamlining the engineering process while working within the confines of Hiller engineering practice and Quality Assurance Program
    • Be technically capable and familiar with hydraulic and pneumatic actuators and air systems
    • Perform sales support - develop and assist on assigned projects - some travel (5%);
    • Troubleshoot project as required
    • Communicate consistently with both Hiller and customer personnel
    • Assist when requested in the design and implementation of continuous improvement objectives
    • Assist when requested in helping other engineers grow within the Company;
    • When requested, represent Hiller at Nuclear Industry forums, and meetings - some travel (5%)
    • Analyze and interpret test data by reviewing and sorting data
    • Engineering calculations as required for design or specification
    • Read customer specifications and translate into design and/ or QA requirements on a project basis
    • Perform all work in accordance with assigned due dates
    • Be flexible to schedule revisions from all interfacing departments an addition to the customer
    • Participate as required in transmittals to internal and external customers;
    • Participate as assigned in production, design review, customer and other project related meetings

    Essential Function – Daily:

    • Work closely with a diverse group of engineers, designers, technicians, purchasing and project management personnel
    • Continually assist in the development of core standard engineering product lines
    • Design projects to operate within customer and Hiller systems
    • Work to ensure external customer and internal customer deliverables and support are achieved

    Essential Function – Weekly:

    Work with Inventory control and purchasing functions

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Qualifications/Experience/Skills & Competencies:

      • 4 year - Mechanical, Electrical Engineering degree at minimum or Nuclear Engineering degree
      • 0-5+ years experience with proven ability in modeling and detail drawing in 3D CAD, preferably SolidEdge
      • High level of competency in MS Office applications
      • Experience writing technical specifications
      • Prior mentoring experience is a definite plus
      • Self starter - with minimum supervision
      • Ability to work well under a compressed schedule.

       

      Work Environment: This position works primarily in an office setting with moderate to light noise.

       

      Physical Activity – this position requires the following activities at minimum:

      Daily or Weekly basis:

      • Standing, walking, and/or sitting for communication, site visits and office environment;
      • Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling a minimum of 20lbs. for use of samples
      • Speaking, hearing, seeing, depth perception, color vision for communication
      • Repetitive motion for computer and desk work
      • 1 – 2 Times per year or less frequently
      • Ability to travel commercially for customer and site visits.
